Rehabilitating Burundi’s forests!

Burundi’s lower mountain forests have been stripped of their needle-leaved and evergreen species that protect local communities from further land degradation. But not to worry! Our project focuses on protecting natural forests by employing local villagers to plant, monitor and ensure sustainability. Seedlings are planted in biodegradable bags made from banana peels and fertiliser is made from biochar to avoid the use of chemical fertilisers. These planting methods restore ecological diversity, sustain the local population and provide innovative alternatives to common planting practices!
